CABLE SHIP USNS ZEUS - USA

The USNS Zeus (T-ARC-7) is the first cable ship specifically designed for the United States Navy. Originally planned as the lead ship of a two-vessel class, she remains the sole ship of her kind due to the cancellation of the second vessel. Zeus can lay up to 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of cable at depths reaching 9,000 feet (2,700 m).

When the U.S. Navy set out to rebuild the cable ship USNS Zeus, they needed a coating for the ventilation system that would last as long as the ship’s expected rebuilt lifespan. Due to saltwater corrosion inside the system, typical coatings would only last 6-8 years, while the ship’s refurbished life was projected to be 20-25 years. Military Sealift Command, overseeing the rebuild, selected ZINGA as the coating of choice for several key reasons.
